Beautiful Balayage & Ombré at Aurora Hair Salon in Northampton
Our colour specialists at Aurora Hairdressing in Northampton always keep up-to-date with the latest hair colouring techniques and one of our favourites is beautiful balayage and ombré.
The balayage hair colouring technique is derived from the French word which means ‘to paint’ or ‘to sweep’. It is a free-hand highlighting technique which allows our hair colour experts create a bespoke look by placing colour precisely where you need it. Ombré gives a more defined line between the colours used on the hair, usually growing lighter towards the ends of the hair.
From soft pastel ombré hair colours, to copper balayage & smoky ombré, we are sure to have the perfect hair colour for you. Give us a call on 01604 622 408 to book in for a hair colour consultation. We also take online hair appointment bookings - simply use the pop up button to the right.
Please note: If you are new to hair colouring, or have not had your hair coloured in the past six months or more, you will need to pop in to Aurora Hairdressing in Northampton for a quick patch test so we can check you are not allergic to the hair colour products we use.

Can Balayage Be Created On All Colours?
Balayage and ombré hair colours are a popular colour choice in our Northampton hair salon with buttery blonde tones and white platinum blonde colours proving to be the top balayage & ombré looks.
However, balayage can be created on all hair colours from copper balayage to silver ombré and lots of colours in-between!
Many people opt for a blonde balayage, keeping darker colours closer to the roots. This makes this a low maintenance hair colour because you do not need to visit the salon so often for a root touch-up (although a glossing treatment in-between hair colour visits can really work a treat in rejuvenating your colour and shine).
Is Balayage Hair Colour Easy To Maintain?
The good news is that balayage is a great low-maintenance hair colour as your root regrowth will be less noticeable than with traditional foils. You can expect to see your colourist around every 12-14 weeks to maintain your balayage highlights. We’d also recommend a 6-weekly colour glossing touch-up to freshen up your hair between appointments.
Will Balayage Damage My Hair?
Balayage will not dry out your hair any more than other colouring technique. Our highly trained team understand exactly how your hair will respond to the colouring process and how to apply the colour to achieve the look you want. We can also protect the strength and condition of your hair during the process by using Olaplex. Book in for a consultation and please do ask your colour technician for more information.
The word balayage comes from the French, meaning “to sweep”. The technique involves your expert stylist hand-painting, or sweeping, soft highlights throughout your hair free-hand. This allows us to place your highlights exactly where they will look the best, giving your hair a beautiful natural sun-kissed look.
As the colour is painted in free-hand there are no hard lines, meaning that the effect is subtler than that achieved with conventional foil highlights and re-growth is less obvious. Using balayage we can create a bespoke individual look, which can be adapted to your individual personality and style.
Our skilled hair colour technicians will paint the balayage hair colour directly onto your hair, applying it more finely closer to your roots and with bolder brush strokes towards the ends.
This freehand technique allows us to highlight areas where the sun would naturally lift your colour, giving it a finish that’s both subtle and multi-dimensional.
The time taken to apply your balayage hair colour will depend on the length of your hair and also whether we are adding balayage throughout your hair or just a few highlights, for example to frame your face.
We will advise you on how long it will take when you book in for a complimentary hair colour consultation Please note, if your hair is damaged, it will take longer to achieve the desired result as we will work to improve the condition of your hair so it is ready for the colouring process.
Although your initial balayage appointment can take longer and be slightly more expensive than regular foil highlights, this is a low maintenance look which requires fewer visits to the hairdressers as your root regrowth will be less noticeable.
The colour look we create will also be completely bespoke to you. Blonde balayage is extremely popular but there are many alternative colours you can try too, including red balayage and sun-kissed brunette balayage. Balayage can also be great way to try out some fun fashion colours, without the commitment of an all over colour.
Balayage is traditionally shown off on mid-length or long hair, but well placed balayage highlights can also look stunning on a short bob or pixie cut.
It's important when adding balayage to short hair to ensure that you book in with an expert stylist who will have the skills to hand paint your highlights in precisely the right place in your hair. Our expert colourists at Aurora are highly experienced at balayage, and can add texture and dimension to your short hair style with some carefully placed higlights. Book a complimentary hair colour consultation and we can help you decide of the right tones to suit your skin colour, hair type and style.
The price will depend on the length of your hair and the number of highlights we add. Book a free hair colour consultation and we will advise you further.
